What is Fractional Laser Therapy?

Fractional laser therapy–sometimes referred to by the brand name Fraxel–uses advanced laser technology to target concerns beneath the skin’s surface while preserving its outer layer. It’s a nonablative laser that creates microscopic wounds in a pattern, triggering the body’s natural healing process. This process leads to the regeneration of new, healthy skin cells and an increase in collagen, a protein that gives our skin structure and elasticity.

Fraxel laser resurfacing treatments address many of the most common signs of aging and skin conditions without necessitating extensive recovery time. Moreover, they’re considered safe for all skin tones, including darker skin

  • Reduced fine lines and wrinkles
  • Improved skin tone and texture
  • Diminished acne scars and stretch marks
  • Lightening of sun spots and hyperpigmentation
  • Minimal downtime compared to traditional resurfacing treatments

How We Perform Fractional Laser Treatments at Restorative Injectables

We pride ourselves on using top-tier technologies to deliver the best possible outcomes for our clients. This commitment to excellence is reflected in our choice of fractional laser systems: the Nordlys and Chrome Lase Station.

The Nordlys system from Candela is equipped with two fractional laser wavelengths that penetrate the skin to precise depths. The powerful 1550 nm wavelength is adept at smoothing out fine lines and repairing sun-damaged skin. The 1940 nm wavelength targets more superficial skin concerns such as brown spots. Both options use SoftCool technology to keep you comfortable throughout treatment.

The Cartessa Chrome Lase Station uses sophisticated NanoFrax technology and two wavelengths, 1064 nm and 532 nm, to perform treatments from skin tightening to pigmented lesion removal. Safe for all skin tones, it customizes parameters to your skin’s exact needs and saves them for future appointments with its unique Skin Apps feature.

Ideal Candidates for Fraxel Laser Skin Resurfacing

Fraxel may be suitable for adults of all ages and skin types who wish to improve the appearance of their skin. Good candidates typically seek to address:

  • Age spots and sun spots
  • Discoloration
  • Fine lines and signs of aging
  • Mild skin laxity
  • Rosacea and redness
  • Sun damage
  • Skin texture irregularities
  • Uneven pigmentation

Contraindications include certain skin conditions, active skin infections and a history of poor wound healing. A consultation with one of our professionals can help determine if this treatment is right for you.

Before & Afters

CoolSculpting results are not immediately visible as it takes time for the destroyed fat cells to be expelled from the body. As such, it can take 4–6 weeks to start seeing results. You will continue to see improvements for 12–16 weeks afterward, with some patients even noticing results up to 20 weeks later.

What to Expect at Your Fraxel Laser Treatment

At this initial meeting, a skilled practitioner will assess your skin’s condition, discuss your aesthetic goals and determine if fractional laser resurfacing is the most suitable skin rejuvenation option for you. Now’s the time to ask questions and express any concerns you may have.

On the day of your treatment, the targeted area will be cleansed, a topical numbing cream will be applied to minimize discomfort and you’ll be given protective eyewear. The Nordlys or Chrome handpiece will then be expertly maneuvered over the treatment area, emitting microbeams of laser energy to initiate the skin’s natural healing process. The procedure typically lasts between 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the size and condition of the area being treated.

After treatment, you may experience redness and swelling similar to a mild sunburn. These symptoms are temporary and generally subside within a few days. Your practitioner will provide detailed aftercare instructions to support the healing process, the most important of which include wearing broad-spectrum sunscreen and avoiding sun exposure.

Follow-up appointments may be recommended to monitor your progress and ensure the best results. Depending on your treatment plan, multiple sessions spaced several weeks apart may be recommended.

How Much Does a Fraxel Laser Treatment Cost?

The cost of your treatment can vary based on several factors, including the treatment area size, the condition being treated and the number of sessions required. At Restorative Injectables, we strive to provide transparent pricing and will discuss all factors during your consultation. Contact us to learn more.

How Do Fraxel Treatments Boost Collagen?

Fraxel laser treatments promote collagen production through a process called “fractional photothermolysis.” “Photo” refers to light, and “thermolysis” means the destruction of tissue through heat. Here’s how it works:

Fraxel lasers treat only a fraction of the skin at a time, leaving surrounding areas untouched while creating microscopic treatment zones–rather like the microchannels created by microneedling. The laser emits focused light energy that heats up the skin tissue in these tiny areas. This controlled heating is precise and causes minimal damage to the skin.

The heat from the laser causes minor damage within the dermis, the skin’s deeper layer where collagen is found. In response to this controlled damage, the body naturally starts a healing process that includes the production of new collagen and elastin fibers.

Over time, as new collagen forms, the skin becomes firmer, smoother and more youthful-looking. This regeneration process helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles, scars and other skin imperfections.
