Dos and Don’ts Before and After PDO Threads

Dos and Don’ts Before and After PDO Threads

Aging is part of the human experience, but although we can't stop it from occurring, there are multiple treatments we can undergo to minimize the signs of aging on our skin. One such treatment is the PDO thread lift at Restorative Injectables.

What Is a PDO Thread Lift?

A PDO thread lift is a procedure that uses biodegradable polyester sutures to rejuvenate, smooth, and lift sagging skin. It can provide patients with results comparable to a traditional facelift but in a fraction of the time and for far less money.

The PDO threads stimulate collagen, reduce fine lines and superficial wrinkles, provide instant volume, and lift the skin to a firmer, more youthful position. The procedure has quickly become a preferred treatment for minimizing signs of aging that appear on the following:

  • Forehead
  • Jawline
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Eyebrows
  • Under the eyes

How Does A PDO Thread Lift Work?

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the results of a PDO thread lift typically last 1 to 2 years, and the procedure involves the following:

  1. Numbing the treatment area with injectable lidocaine to ensure comfort
  2. Creating  points for the PDO threads
  3. Passing the threads beneath the skin to lift it
  4. In the weeks and months after the procedure, the threads will stimulate collagen production and gradually improve your results.

While there may still be some swelling after the procedure, as it starts to subside in the following 24-48 hours,  the firming and lifting become noticeable.

After about three weeks, most of the swelling fully goes down, and you’ll see even more improvements in your skin’s appearance. A few months after the procedure, the body naturally ramps up collagen and elastin production, which further firms and lifts the skin, revealing the final results.

PDO Thread Pre-op and Post-op: What to Do and What Not to Do

Getting the most out of PDO threading requires you to do a few things before and after their procedure.

Some of the things you should do include quitting any medications or supplements that can cause excessive bleeding or bruising a week or two before the procedure.  Examples of these include the following:

  • Acetaminophen
  • Garlic supplements
  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
  • Omega-3 supplements

Consuming pineapples and Arnica, an herb sometimes used to flavor food, can also benefit you as it can reduce swelling and bruising after the procedure.

As far as what not to do after PDO threading, most providers who perform the procedure recommend the following:

  • Avoid any strenuous activity for at least two weeks after the procedure
  • Keep the facial incisions clean and covered with Vaseline
  • Limit facial motion, such as excessive chewing, talking, or smiling, for at least 24 hours after the procedure
  • Don’t touch or wash your face for 12 hours after treatment
  • Don’t wear makeup for several days after treatment
